Zim Board XI v Pakistan Academy, Harare, 3rd day Zimbabwe feel the heat after double declaration August 25, 2008
Zimbabwe Board XI 189 (Mujuru 90*) and 34 for 2 need a further 362 to beat Pakistan Academy 482 for 7 dec and 103 for 2 dec (Manzoor 51, Shafiq 34*)
Pakistan Academy tightened their grip with another all-round display at the Harare Sports Club, needing eight wickets on the final day to wrap up a match they've dominated from the start. After securing a massive first-innings lead of 293, Pakistan then set Zimbabwe Board XI a target of 397 and the hosts were immediately on the back foot, lost their openers inside six overs. Resuming their overnight score of 101 for 5, Zimbabwe were rocked off the first ball of the day, losing Regis Chakabva to Ahmed Shehzad, the left-arm spinner, for 25. Anwar Ali, the seamer then removed Trevor Garwe for a duck. Bornaparte Mujuru, the opener, defied the Pakistan attack but unfortunately kept running out of partners as he was stranded on 90, off 255 balls which included seven fours. Mohammad Aamer, the left-arm seamer, cleaned up the tail, trapping Bradley Staddon lbw for 27, before bowling Tafadzwa Kamungozi (2) and getting Prosper Tsvanhu to edge to the wicketkeeper Naeem Anjum for one. Pakistan lost Ahmed Shehzad early for 3, caught at second slip by Mujuru off Garwe, before the captain Khurran Manzoor scored 51 off 60 balls to stretch their lead. At the declaration, Asad Shafiq was unbeaten on 34 and Fawad Alam on 5. The home side were made to bat out the remaining 28 overs and they started poorly, losing Tafadzwa Ngulube lbw to Aamer for 3. Bradley Staddon, in an unusual role as an opener, was bowled by Anwar for 5. They ended the day needing a further 362, under pressure to build partnerships to have a realistic chance of even forcing a draw. © Cricinfo
