sealed with a six! Spanked high over long-off! And Morgan is seriously pumped about that win, toppling the No.1 T20 team in the world is no mean feat, and he's done it in style!
England vs Pakistan, Only T20I at Cardiff, WC Warm-up, May 05 2019 - Match Result
6.20pm Right, that's the end of the fun for tonight. A rowdy start to England's home international campaign. And what a campaign it will be. From myself, Alan and Thilak, good night!
6.14pm Farhan: "Mark my prediction - Eng will win the ODI 4-1. Pak will win both the warm up matches. Also they will exit from the round league. I can see it" Hmm ... words marked
Joe Root is chuffed to have played his part in England's win too ... he really, really, really wants to re-establish himself as a T20 player.
"It's quite difficult because of the lack of T20 cricket I've played in the last couple of years but, ultimately, it's about trying to fit your role and playing in your own way in this team. I feel I generally do complement the guys pretty well, but obviously we're always looking to find ways of scoring more quickly, I feel I can play that role which guards the team so that they can go out and play their shots."
6.03pm Here's Sarfraz: "We didn't take wickets in the middle overs, and their captain played really well. Shadab, we miss him in the playing XI, but hopefully he'll be well for the World Cup. We play five quality ODI matches before the World Cup, which is good preparation."
Morgan: "Getting over the line with a young team is important for them to learn. Great practice going into the World Cup as well, two completely different challenges in three days. We were a bit hit-and-miss, it wasn't near our best, Pakistan looked like getting 190, Jofra had a good debut, Tom Curran bowled well, but we'll assess and learn, and move on."
"The partnership between Vince and Root, they played beautifully, but when I came in, I felt I needed to throw a punch."
6.02pm Rizwan Zafar: "Morgan has crafted the chase in a perfect fashion, hitting a boundary in every over and was always in control of the RRR." Can't argue with that. His form for Middlesex this season has been indifferent, but he's turned it back on in England colours.
6pm Sealed with a six, on the dot of six. After the struggles in Malahide on Friday, that was a very impressive chase from England, a couple of important knocks from the old stagers, Morgan and Root, but it was a new-look team that sealed the deal.
a hint of width, nailed out to the sweeper in the covers, Morgan's back for the second to bring up his fifty. Job almost done
crashed to cover, Denly wanted the single but Morgan sends him back! Safe in the end, Morgan wanted the strike for the final over
James De Lamber: "Can we just give Foakes MoM for his glovework? " Vince's cover drive will have something to say about that
full toss, smacked to long-on
full once more, flogged through the leg side again to keep the requirement draining away
very full, tailing in, stabbed out to the off side
yorker again, Pakistan have bowled them well, stabbed to the leg side
in the slot, on the toes, and Denly launches this one flat over wide long-on! Superb contact, and it's down to a run a ball now
wafted across the line, Denly keeps the strike. England are in command
an insolent swipe, and an under-edge through fine leg!
Vinay: "How dare Morgan take away Foakes' shot at the debut MoM treble..." How rude! Maybe it'll still count when he actually bats for the first time in a T20I. In about six years' time
round the wicket, cramping for room, eased to the leg side
back of a length, a slower ball, Denly dabs to cover and a quick single
boshed out to cover
full toss, a slap over the head of mid-off! Morgan got that one very high on the bat, but got enough on the shot to inflict the damage
low full toss, but this time Denly's drive pierces the field! Deeper in the crease this time, giving himself leverage, and filleting a vital boundary
very full, outswinging yorker, this is quality containment. Can't do much with that
right up to the toes, flicked to midwicket, a fumble, thoughts of a single, the throw goes wide, a lot of drama for not a lot
flogged to deep point, another single
short, too short, launching high over the batsman's head
good scampering from Denly, beating the shy from mid-off
